FAQ
How did you get into painting?
I studied painting in highschool and a small bit in college, but I started a photography business first and just recently started getting back into painting. With the success of my house paintings I've been able to branch off and combine my love for surreal works with my love for the watercolors!
I see you paint houses, people and pets, but what if I have something different I want you to paint?
No problem! I paint all sorts of things from people's dreams and memories, to hotels and landscapes. Shoot me a message to discuss your custom painting!
Where are you located?
Olathe, KS USA
I serve the greater Kansas City area, and will travel if the right opportunity presents itself. I have studios I use in the Westbottoms if you're looking for a studio shoot, and I utilize numerous parks, urban areas and secret, private locations all over the city from Paola, KS to Kearney, MO.
My highschool seniors wants a unique session, can they bring their own 'props'?
YES! I LOVE THAT! It gives us both an opportunity to be creative. Give me a heads up on what you're thinking and what kind of individual you are, and we can come up with some out of the box ideas.
What if my kids are being little jerks?
Don't worry, I have 3 kids under 12 myself! That's what kids do, and all I need is that one second where they're looking at the camera to capture that face, and that precious expression that you'll want to hold onto. You'll be surprised how smooth and easy this all ends up being, even in the midst of the shoot when it all feels like chaos and no one's cooperating and no one's paying attention, I can still command the scene and (usually with some photoshop magic and face swaps!) I can get amazing pictures for you that you didn't know were possible. Have no fear! Sharyl's here!
What kind of gear do you use?
All Canon, all day long. I use 2 different Canon bodies-6D mark ii and 70D paired with the Canon 70-200mmL 2.8 and the Canon 50mmL 1.2. I also use a Canon 24mmL 1.4 for those great wide shots or when I'm in tight indoor spaces and the 35mm 1.4 when I just feel like changing it up some.
When painting I use Winston and Newton watercolors on 140# cold pressed paper. I have about a million brushes and no specific brand I like over the others. Whichever one holds water the best!
